Windows 7 is the latest Operating System of Microsoft Corporation. Upgrading from Windows Vista® to Windows® 7 using this product enables you to benefit from all the current features of the Operating System.
The latest information for Toshiba Upgrade Assistant is disclosed in this page. Please read the contents of this page before performing the upgrade to Windows 7; even if you already have an upgrade instruction guide that is bundled with "Toshiba Upgrade Kit for Windows® 7".

Please confirm the following system requirements before installing Windows 7.
Internet connection
Minimum free hard disk space : 18 GB (for 32-bit) or 22 GB (for 64-bit)
DVD-ROM Drive
Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 2 is installed on your computer
| Upgrade Consideration |
Toshiba Upgrade Assistant tool will help you perform the upgrade to Windows 7. This tool deletes software which does not work on Windows 7, update the BIOS and perform software installation for Windows 7.
Please read the following instructions before starting the upgrade.
Before you begin the upgrade, please create recovery discs and back up all your data in the hard disk. (For digital TV recording data, please copy it into DVD-RAM media.)
Please consult any software vendor whose program or driver is installed or operating on your computer, as systematic updates may be require to run Windows 7.
We recommend performing system recovery (*) (restore the software back to the original factory configuration) before upgrading to Windows 7. (Note: system recovery may restore factory settings, but other personalized data may be lost.)
If upgrading is not successful, please perform the system recovery (*) and restore the original environment from a backup.
You cannot upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7.
Depending on the type of internet service (eg. FTTH, ADSL) and the internet connection speed, the upgrade process may take about 2 - 4 hours.
Some Windows Touch features may not be available. There is no guarantee that all of the Windows 7 features are available or fully functioning.

TOSHIBA Device Access Control
If you are using TOSHIBA Device Access Control, please re-configure the access setting for each device after the Windows 7 upgrade is completed.
Ulead DVD MovieFactory 7
You cannot create a DVD-VR disc on Windows 7 unless you install a patched module for Windows 7. The patch module will be available in the Toshiba support site.
Ulead DVD MovieFactory 5
You cannot capture a video from an USB web camera or a DV/HDV camera unless you install a patched module for Windows 7. The patch module will be available in the Toshiba support site.
Authentec TrueSuite Access Manager
TrueSuite Access Manager is replaced with TOSHIBA Fingerprint Utility after upgrading to Windows 7 through Toshiba Upgrade Assistant. TOSHIBA Fingerprint Utility cannot decrypt a protected file that has been encrypted by TrueSuite Access Manager. To decrypt the protected file after the upgrade, please use the "AT Decrypt Utility".
To run the AT Decrypt Utility, please perform the following steps.
[Start] Menu => [All Programs] => [TOSHIBA] => [Utility] => [AT Decrypt Utility]You cannot keep the data which has been registered in the Password Bank after upgrading to Windows 7. In this case, please register the data again by using TOSHIBA Fingerprint Utility.
Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba
When using Bluetooth Information Exchange (BIE) for file transfer and multiple files are selected using drag and drop, only 1 file will be sent. This issue only occurs on Windows 7.
Ulead WinCinema Disc Creator
This application is not supported on Windows 7.
The system reboots several times while Toshiba Upgrade Assistant is operating. A dialog box indicating the system is unable to shut down because a program that is not closed might be displayed on the shutdown screen and the shutdown may stop. In this situation, click on the [OK] button or the [Force Restart] button in the dialog box to continue the process and complete the system shutdown.
If you would like to stop the upgrade, click on the [Cancel] button. And if you would like to resume the upgrade, please run ToshibaUpgradeAssistant.exe which has been saved into a folder on your computer. For details, please see the Step 1 of "Instruction of Upgrade". Then the upgrade process which has been interrupted will start again. If the upgrade has stopped due to a communication error etc., please follow the instruction that is described in the Step 1.
The following screen might be displayed while upgrading. In this case, confirm the content and continue to upgrade. If the upgrade doesn't continue, the software which is incompatible with Windows 7 is installed. Stop the upgrade and uninstall the object software. Then restart the upgrade again.
Please do not run any application other than Toshiba Upgrade Assistant while upgrading.

- If you have the "Toshiba Upgrade Kit for Windows® 7", prepare the "Windows® 7 Upgrade Media" and "Product Key Label (Windows® 7 COA Label)".
- If you do not have the "Toshiba Upgrade Kit for Windows® 7", prepare the "Windows® 7 Installation Disc" that you have purchased.
- If you do not have "Toshiba Upgrade Kit for Windows® 7", please skip the step 2 and move on the next step.
Approximate time required: 10 minutes
Approximate time required: 30 ~ 60 minutes (by using a Fiber to the Home network)
What you should choose depends on the version of Windows Vista installed on your computer.
If you do not know which version of Windows Vista you are using, please perform the following steps.
Click on the Start button.
Click on "Control Panel".
Click on "System and Maintenance".
Click on "System".
You will see "32-bit Operating System" or "64-bit Operating System" in System type.
- We recommend you to remember and write down the folder name. If the upgrade is stopped by anything unexpected, you can continue the process by running ToshibaUpgradeAssistant.exe.
- If you click on the [Run] button on the above dialog box, the "Internet Explorer - Security Warning" dialog box appears. In this case, please click on the [Run] button. The "Welcome to the Toshiba Upgrade Assistant" dialog box is displayed.
At this time, the following process is performed.
- Checking the computer is the target model for upgrade.
- Downloading drivers and utilities, software, BIOS to hard disk for installation.
The "Review Uninstall List" dialog box is displayed. Click on the [Next] button.
The "Uninstall Components" dialog box is displayed. Click on the [Start Uninstall] button.
At this point, software which does not work on Windows 7 is uninstalled.
If the following dialog box is displayed, then click on the [OK] button. The system will restart.
In this case, you will not see the "Install required components for Windows 7 upgrade" dialog box.
If the "Install required components for Windows 7 upgrade" dialog box is displayed then click on the [Install] button. When the process is completed, click on the [Finish] button. Then the system will restart.
After the Toshiba Upgrade Assistant has completed the process on Windows Vista, the "Please insert 'Windows Installation DVD' into the DVD drive." dialog box is displayed. Click on the [Next] button.
If you are running "Windows® 7 Upgrade Media", Windows 7 will begin the setup soon.
If not, a message will display, requesting you to insert "Windows® 7 Installation Disc" into the DVD drive.
Approximate time required: 60 ~ 90 minutes
- Please be sure not to select [Custom (advanced)].
