Generator-Motors

In parallel with exploration and development of the pump-turbines for pumped storage power stations, generator-motors have been getting to be higher speed and larger unit output. The parameter of outputspeed is so often used for checking difficulty in designing and manufacturing of the generator-motors. TOSHIBA's basic concept is that they shall be of air-cooled type. As, nowadays, TOSHIBA has the equation [output × speed]= 3.0 × 105 (MVA × min-1) showing the maximum possible unit output in air-cooled type, most of the generator-motors under planning can be of air-cooled type.

Figure in the next page shows "Progress in OutputSpeed of Generator-Motors". TOSHIBA's typical examples of the air-cooled generator-motors towards higher speed and larger output are;

  • 250MVA-225min-1 in Kisenyama Power Station ---1960s world largest output
  • 220MVA-514min-1 in Okuyoshino Power Station ---1970s world largest outputspeed
  • 390MVA-429min-1 in Imaichi Power Station ---1980s world largest outputspeed
  • 475MVA-520min-1 in Kazunogawa Power Station
---Beginning of 2000s world largest outputspeed (adjustable speed)
