Introduction

Blade Life Extension: BLE ProcessTM

Toshiba's gas turbine technologies, especially maintenance / repair technologies for hot gas path components, have been established through not only continuous research and development but also the application to commercial-operated heavy duty gas turbines.

Blade Life Extension Process (BLE ProcessTM) recovers creep life by HIP (Hot Isostatic Pressing) treatment. BLE ProcessTM can be applied to some of fully life-consumed (i.e. scrapped) blades as well as those before the recommended life. With pre/post-processes such as coating strip, recoating and precise inspections, degraded blades are regenerated. The regenerated blades can be treated as new products in principle. We believe BLE ProcessTM is an excellent solution to reduce your GT maintenance cost.

[Technical Features]
- Microstructure is rejuvenated and creep life is recovered accordingly.
- Casting defects and service-induced cavities are repaired.
- Special HIP furnace was developed to control pressure and temperature delicately.
- BLE ProcessTM does not affect blade profile or cooling hole shape.
- BLE ProcessTM can be applied not only once but many times.

[Experiences]
- Both 1100 deg.C class and 1300 deg.C class gas turbine blades
- Applied to more than 10 gas turbines since 1999
- The longest operating time of BLE-applied blades is more than 30,000 hours
- No severe damage has been found since the first application.
