Thyristor Excitation System with AC Breaker

System Features
AC breaker

MPG: Multi pulse generator
OV: Detecting excessive voltage and generate gate pulse
DR: Discharge register
NLR: Non linear register

1. The system features that no DC field circuit breaker is required for interrupting the field, and it has a Multi Pulse Generator (MPG). The thyristor rectifier is gate-locked simultaneously with the accidental cut-off signal to the AC breaker which interrupts excitation power source and moreover continuous gate pulses are added to the gate of thyristor switch (THr) by the MPG. The thyristor SW (THr) is turned on and the discharge circuit is made simultaneously when the output voltage of the thyristor rectifier becomes negative. Therefore, the field current fed to the generator field is by-passed, flowing to the discharge circuits and the AC breaker will be cut off without any damage.
2. Both polarity thyristor SW circuits in the crowbar have an OV (detecting excessive voltage and generating gate pulse) respectively so that the gate current can be supplied continuously after the thyristor SW is turned on.
