PSS Package

Toshiba offers you series of PSSs in addition to generic Delta P type PSS for suppressing Power System Oscillations. You can choose a desirable PSS that suit wide varieties of oscillations in concern. Toshiba has many delivery results of these PSSs, which are working now. The design and adjustment procedure is established with reliance. The new technique powered by the H2 robust control theory can also be offered as an option, and provides robust performance in response to power grid characteristics. Toshiba also offers re-tuning service for the control function of your own PSS, which has already been working.

Benefits
Following series of PSSs are effective and low cost means of mitigating dynamic stability problems.

  • Generic Delta P type PSS for suppressing power system oscillations arise mainly in local area
  • Delta P+Delta Omega type PSS for suppressing weak oscillations with comparatively lower frequency
  • Furthermore, Governor-PSS Co-operative Control System extends the force of suppression to lower frequency band; PSS could never achieved by it.

Details
The control system of a power generator consists of excitation and governor control systems as shown in Figure 1. The excitation control system regulates the terminal voltage to be desired value with the Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR). The governor maintains output power and frequency by controlling steam flows. PSS is designed to suppress low frequency power system oscillations in the range of approximately 0.2 to 3 Hz, and inputs an additional control signal to the AVR. Figure 2 summarizes suppression force of PSS varies with frequency. Toshiba can select and design PSSs to suppress the oscillation in concern.
