TOSHIBA Digital Audio Level Controller Digital ALC
Product Outline
Product Outline
The 200ADLX is a full-digital-processing ALC (Automatic Level Controller). As its name means, this product has an automatic audio level control function together with a "limitter" and "compressor" function. The product is designed to perform such functions with human hearing characteristics taken into consideration. Other conventional audio level controllers have performed audio level control based on averaged data of input signal level, that is, by simply averaging audio signal inputs, without giving any special concern to each signal's frequency components. Generally, humans have a tendency to feel different volume of sound, even if the sounds are on the same level, when these sounds are on different frequency bands. Despite the fact that human hearings have such tendency, conventional ALCs have neglected to take this into account, giving impressions to TV viewers or radio listeners that the level is overly controlled (upped or downed too much). This problem has often invited complaints from TV viewers or radio listeners due to too much volume in TV and radio commercials, etc.. In designing this product, we established our original design-target, aiming at the pursuit of the most faithful sound to the original sound, together with the achievement of the most natural sound, both to the limit of our best technology. Based on our state-of-the-art digital processing technology as well as our basic technical know-how which we have steadily accumulated over the years, we realized our concept of the excessive-control-free ALC, which produces far more natural sound closer to a human hearing sense. The timing and the amount of audio level control are based on the simulated data of perception, judgement, and movement of experienced-mixer-man, making this product the highly intelligent ALC which is a big breakthrough from the old-concept of other conventional ALCs. In addition, this product is designed to be able to respond to pulse-like signals or sudden and intensive level-changes, due to a built-in "limitter" and "compressor" function. Furthermore, since the product is fitted with a stereo link function and a mode selection function (Selectable among 5 mode, Announce booth, Sub-Master control and CM bank system, and audio modes of stereo, mono, dual language), the product can respond to wide variety of user applications, including Announce input, News-sub out, Master out and CM broadcasting use. Compared with our previous models, many further improvements in functions are accomplished, such as an analog & digital input/output interface compatibility and a counter-measure capability against over-modulation problem caused by emphasis at the transmitter's side.
