In Part 2, we discussed the important points for overseas projects. This time, we will look at the risk management of IT engineers participating in overseas projects.

Contact employee abroad with SNS and get real information.

This time, we will introduce culture and customs overseas.

In Japan, incidents such as riot have not happened for decades but it happens occasionally, even in developed countries, such as America.

Incidents happen more frequently in emerging countries such as Latin America than in Japan. In China, incidents such as destroying stores by anti-Japanese demonstration happened as well. In Brazil, large scale demonstration happened during our trip due to increasing public transportation fee. In some cases, the demonstrators became violent, smashed window of a bank and conflicted with security forces until the next morning, just near the hotel where we were staying. At that time, we had dinner at a nearby restaurant, but we could not go back to the hotel because we felt that it was dangerous.

Recently, Facebook and other SNS are available on smartphones, therefore we are able to avoid risks by sharing information in advance. The best way to get information is to contact employee assigned abroad and it is best not to leave the hotels when there are such riots.

In addition to such riots, countermeasures against theft are important. For example, in the case of males, it is better not to put the wallet in the hip pocket. Put the backpack on your front is recommended in various countries and regions. Let's hold a bag in front of you as well. If there is a blind spot, the things inside the bag could be stolen by cutting the bag with a cutter knife.

Leaving valuables in the hotel room should be avoided. Sometimes, the key could be destroyed and then the valuables could be stolen.

Of course, dangerous areas should be avoided. There is possibility of being robbed. It is not always dangerous abroad but if you think that it is the same as Japan, you may experience severe problem, therefore let's always be aware.

Furthermore, there is a book about overseas travel guidance titled "Globe-Trotter Travel Guide Book", please take a look at it.

Collecting information and self-management are also important to avoid risk in foods.

There are also some risks in foods.

It is obvious that raw water and raw foods are dangerous, but even cooked foods may cause food poisoning due to unsanitary conditions. It would be a good idea to have local representatives tell the information.

Going to the doctor overseas requires high language abilities (you must be accompanied by local people, and it will be troublesome), and insurance will be another concern. It is important that you take care of yourself as much as you can so that you do not have to go the hospital while you are overseas.

You have to be careful when implementing system to local factory. This is a case when we went to a factory in Thailand. Since there was a canteen in the factory, we thought that we could have lunch there. In fact, there were only super spicy dishes that Japanese people can not eat, and after all we missed lunch.

Since this information is not written in the "Globe-Trotter Travel Guide Book", it is necessary to collect information such as looking up on internet, SNS or communication with employee assigned abroad.
