In Part 10, we discussed how to plan schedule harmonized with the overseas company's local work style. Now, we will look at the important points that Japanese need to take when they work overseas.

In addition to work visa, there are countries that require "work permit".

When a Japanese employee is assigned overseas, he or she needs to be aware of the work permit.

Thailand is a country where many Japanese companies, especially manufacturing companies, are expanding. We have had a lot job request from Thailand. In Thailand, labor visa (B visa) only permits entry into Thailand and stay for business purposes, but it does not permit work itself. Work permit is required in order to work over a long period of time in Thailand.

Please note that if you can obtain a work permit, you will be able to issue a work visa. However, even if you can obtain work visa, it does not mean you can always get work permit.

You cannot decide on your work after the work permit issued. You need to decide on specific works at first.

Means, work permits have issuance terms and conditions. For example, issuance of work permits need investment, top management positions like CEO and board of directors, involving technology transfer; and it should be a business that does not deprive Thai people of their job, such as unskilled labor. Based on this idea, the company's size, job descriptions, and job categories are examined by using documents and interviews, then work permit will be finally issued.

If you work for a long period of time in Thailand without knowing this, you might be charged with illegal employment, thus be careful. In addition to Thailand, other country that requires work permit is Vietnam.

In India and Canada, it is difficult to obtain work visas.

In some countries and regions, it is difficult to obtain work visas.

India (high expertise is required), Canada (work visa issuance is difficult). In the past in the difficulty to obtain work visa China, Indonesia, etc., were relatively low, but recently it has gradually become more difficult.

Nevertheless, IT engineers with a certain degree of practical performance are more likely to get the work visa issued and you may not need to be worried. However, it is important to keep in mind that different countries and regions have different views on the work visa and work permit issuance.
